p90X starring Jen and Jon

Day 8: It goes.

Posted in Uncategorized by p90xjenon on March 1, 2010

Hello! The p90x continues. In terms of food tips, I’ve learned:

1. Really read the recipe for white chili. If it asks you for chicken stock and onions, it means you’re boiling onions in chicken soup. Eww. My recent attempt to make white chili has failed.

2. Applesauce is the easiest thing in the world to make. Basically, boil some chopped up apples and mash away. So yummy =)

Also, this blog is going to be shut down soon because I’m moving over to this amazing blogging platform called Posterous. Highly, highly recommended for ease of posting everything – from photo galleries, music, and thoughts.

Week 1: Done!

Posted in Uncategorized by p90xjenon on February 28, 2010

Jon and I made it through the first week! 1 week of daily exercise and calorie monitoring… only 8 more weeks to go. Tomorrow is the rest day, where I don’t do anything. I’m going to enjoy the crap out of it! There are certain exercises that are hard to do because my tail bone is still sore from snowboarding.

I’m also beginning to question whether or not there’s a double standard around the phrase “I”m on an exercise program” if it comes from a guy, or a girl. For example, if I tell a friend that I’m ‘on a program to be more fit’, the comments I get back are usually about how I’m at a healthy weight and that’s not really necessary. If Jon tells a friend ‘I’m on a program to be more fit’, it’s usually accepted with nods and questions. Our intention is essentially the same: to improve our personal fitness and feel better about our bodies.

My friend Andrew is also on the p90x program. During his midterms, he was quite stressed and apparently ate like 3 pounds of food in a meal. Lol.

Day 3: Yoga is hard, and Plyometrics is relatively easy

Posted in Uncategorized by p90xjenon on February 25, 2010

I’ve done yoga on and off since high school and have tried several different studios including hot yoga, so nothing has surprised me in a long time until now. The p90x yoga video makes you stand on one leg, bent over, and twisting your upper body left and right all at the same time.

Jon aced plyometrics with his incredible leaping abilities. I’m pretty sure he was an olympic athlete in another life. Probably high jump. Maybe hurdles, or mountain leaping.

Food tip: No chicken skin

Posted in General update by p90xjenon on February 24, 2010

I really enjoy cooking and I’m going to record reasonable, healthy alternatives to all the vegetable oil in my stir fry and butter I love in my baking.

Today’s tip:

This may sound gross, but I love eating the chicken skin. It’s just delicious and juicy and … yum. Anyways, to prevent temptation, I’m going to throw it out before I cook it.

Also, Tip #1b: do not watch food commercials. I don’t even like Wendy’s mushroom melts, but after seeing the commercial last night, I’m suddenly intruiged.

Day 2: Yoga X + Cardio X.

Posted in Uncategorized by p90xjenon on February 23, 2010

So Jon just finished his exercise for day 2. He’s modifying the program because he already does muay thai, weight lifting, skydiving, and race monkeys in the amazon. He has a muay thai lesson later tonight, so he did yoga x. There’s something extremely weird (slightly funny) about watching your super athletic partner struggle in doing stretches and lunges.

I have accepted that it’s totally unreasonable for me to eat less without starving myself or more importantly, making myself extremely miserable to be around. Restricting food is a surprisingly terrible psychological feeling. I recall whining on the living room couch to Jon and my housemate, Jehangir how “I can’t live like this!’, meaning living without sugar or milk in my decaf tea. I don’t think I can really be a food purist, so subsequently, after Tessa and Scott won their Gold medal (YAY!!), I made myself a cup of tea WITH sugar + milk in caffeniated earl grey black tea. Let’s live a little on the wild side.

Just discovered that p90x lean is not actually a program unto itself. it’s only for maintanece. -__-”

Day 1: The starting line.

Posted in General update by p90xjenon on February 22, 2010

Jen: For breakfast, I had 360 calories consisting of 1/4 cup of almonds (which looks like two tablespoons), 1 cup of milk, and 1 slice of bread. This whole food thing is going to be a challenge. The bigger challenge is getting to audit class, which is as devestating as watching Canada lose to the US in men’s hockey.

Jon: For breakfast, he had 2 pieces of bread, peanut butter, yogurt, and half a cup of soy milk.

Day 0 of P90X

Posted in General update by p90xjenon on February 22, 2010

An 6′ athletically built guy named Jon will start the P90X Classic program, where the primary goal is to build size and tone.

His partner, Jen, is a 5’4″ asian female will start the Lean program, where the primary goal is to develop tone in lieu of muscle strength. The main threat to the success of the program is food and nutrition (I mean, who eats 1 serving of carbs a day for a month). So the plan is to feel healthier and look super hot for the beach season of 2010 at the end of 3 months. Woo!

Tomorrow, Jon’s first workout is his Chest and Back, and the ab workout. Jen will do Core Synergistics. Once they wake up from passing out from exhaustion, they will update their nutrition and exercise progress.
